Wonder Years

The man in the green chair stares at the floor
No one knows where he's been or what he knows
His beard hiding his face and his state of mind
Some argue he should move and some say he should stay

At a lake in north Ontario walks a man in his early years
he doesn't want to grow old
but the trees move on and the birds want to land
and the questions we ask age our minds and they enrich our souls

The man at the lake sits in a green chair and stares at the floor
Wondering where he went and how he came to be so old

He's in his wonder years and he's wandering
Coming close to knowing what he is
The wonder years are born with the land
and the wonder years pave the path

Our ideas and discoveries have come in recent times
People have grown closer and we are pulled together
a quilt formed by intertwining lives

Questions come and go but humans continue to grow
we are in our wonder years and the limit isn't defined
Time goes on, and we move in the same stream
only stopping when lost in dreams
The wonder years are in our minds

The old man in the green chair wonders how he lived so long
how he finished the race when in denial
he thinks about life without his own
and he becomes lost in his world of wonder
the mind is writing a story untold if unknown
and the performers act in every scene

The child that rests in bed dreams of a space filled
with ideas and memories
The future taking the child and setting him on his way
